Building Inclusive Learning Environments
Inclusive learning environments ensure that all students receive equitable treatment, have equal access to their learning experiences, and are supported to achieve their learning goals. Faculty and students work together to create, develop, and maintain inclusive learning environments. This section provides strategies and resources for inclusive instructional strategies, approaches for building community in your course, tools for establishing; communicating; and maintaining appropriate classroom expectations and norms, and ideas for supporting students from equity-seeking groups.
Equity in Education 101
At the heart of inclusive teaching is the fundamental concept of equity. Equity and inclusion in higher education is a collective effort that demands critical attention from educators as they work to make their teaching and learning spaces more equitable. This section provides introductory resources and learning focused on unpacking critical concepts in equity and inclusion.
Facilitating Intercultural Learning
Instructors teaching in diverse and global classrooms have the opportunity to develop cultural awareness and facilitate effective and productive interactions across cultural groups. Understanding the previous educational contexts and pathways of our students is critical for the success for inclusive teaching. This section offers strategies and resources for intercultural communication, leveraging group work as a multi-faceted learning tool, and more.
Inclusive Course & Curriculum Design
Inclusive course and curriculum design requires instructors to think proactively and critically about the diverse types of learners that will be in their courses and make course and curriculum design decisions with that diversity in mind. This section introduces the Universal Design for Learning framework and principles and provides strategies and resources for developing inclusive course documents, learning activities, and grading guidelines and rubrics to support learning for all students.

Our searchable inclusive teaching resource collection with strategies, templates, and activities that have been created or curated by NC faculty. All of these resources have been tried and tested at Niagara College by faculty from a variety of programs and are grounded in NC teaching contexts.
